Cyber Teachers IT Gold 09

by tbennett on Jul.13, 2009, under Cyber Class, Teachers

What I have gained in the Cyber Teachers Program is irreplaceable.  First, the friendship that we gained in the program is great.  I met fifteen incredible teachers and three highly intelligent instructors that I would not mind working with in the future.  I hope that we continue to keep in touch through our blogs.  I’m not much of a blogger but I learned how to build a blog using plug-ins and widgets.

Secondly, I gained the knowledge and the confidence to use the computer more efficiently.  When I first entered the class, the only thing that I could do is create a half deceit Power Point and I dabbled with Publisher.  Now, I know that I can do so much more with the computer that will make me a more competent teacher.  I am so excited about finally learning how to use Excel.  This is the first time that I finally grasp the concept on how it works.  I know how to make a video.  Also, I learned several things that I can use in Windows for example macros, letterhead temple, watermark, and much more.  I can use all this valuable information in and outside of the classroom.

Finally, the most difficult thing that I learn this summer was building a website, but it was fun.  I truly was worried about this project.  I did not think I could do, but with the guidance of Thomas, and the support of David and Catherine, I built my first website. My goal is to use it as a tool to help my students enhance their learning of health and to keep the parents abreast of what is going on in class.  The experience of cyber class has been awesome.  I will never forget the people that I have met and I will use the information that I learn to enhance my teaching.

Do You Worry?

by tbennett on Jun.30, 2009, under Cyber Class, Teachers, Worrier

I was one of those people who would worry about any and everything.  Not any more.  It effected me mentally and physically.  I wouldn’t sleep and I lost my hair around the edges.  I finally realize that I could not make everyone like or love me, and I couldn’t change things that I couldn’t control.

In  the reading, I saw somethings that I already do to keep things off my mind.  The first thing that I do is pray.  I feel s o much better when I pray about the situation and ask God to handle it.  It’s not always easy but it works.  The reading gave some points on how to deal with the problem.  I do the pros and cons or what if I do this or that.  It gives me a chance to look at the problem at different angels, so I can find the best solution.  I found the seven ways to cultivate a mental attitude to be helpful.  It gave some great ideas on how to fill your mind with happy thoughts  and not always expect people to be thankful for what you do.  The thing that I’m going to remember is number four; “Count your blessings –not your troubles!”  This is so true.  I use to get so caught up with my problems, that I would forget that it  could be a lot worst.  I could be jobless, homeless, and hungry.  I thank God everyday for being here on earth, and having the strength to deal with what ever comes my way.  All we can do is take one day at a time.

Workshop

by tbennett on Jun.23, 2009, under Cyber Class, Teachers

It’s been a while since I have been to a workshop that I really felt that I learned something.  It was in August 2007 and we had two women from the National Association for Sports & Physical Eudation (NASPE).  They have been teaching and coaching for the pass twenty plus years.  They were very knowledgeable about Physical Education.  One taught at the college level and the other was a middle/high school teacher.  They did not talk at us; they talked with us. They showed us videos of how their class is ran.  Also, they gave us a great packet of lesson plans, and they performed the lesson with us.  That gave us a better understanding on what we should see in our class when we teach the lesson.  They gave us some great ideas on how to deal with students that want dress out.  It was a great workshop to be in, and they were very helpful.

My Favorite Website!

by tbennett on Jun.21, 2009, under Cyber Class, Favorite Website

I really never thought about having a favorite website.  Now that I think about it, my favorite websites are sites that have to do with fashion of some kind.  Clothes, shoes,  and accessories, whatever is in style for the season.  I believe that the Coach website is my favorite.  The website always has a different look when it is introducing a new line of handbags.  I like that it is an easy website to navigate in to find the products that you are looking for. I also like the small articles about what is in and who has been spotted using their products.  It’s like window shopping from home.

Are you listening?

by tbennett on Jun.18, 2009, under Cyber Class, Teachers

When I told my husband what our  assignment was for today, he started laughing.  He said,”I know what your challenges are…you loose focus!”  That it is the truth.  He knows when I’m not pay attention. I know that I have a problem staying focus.  It ’s worst with my family and friends.  I know that they will repeat what they said. Something will catch my eye or I will start thinking about things that I have to do for the day or something that might have happen to me.    Something that I can do is clear my mind, and give the person that I’m talking to my undivided attention by giving them eye contact and responding to what they are saying.  Also, I can move things out of the way that can be distracting.  I really need to work on staying focus.

Self Initiated Learner

by tbennett on Jun.17, 2009, under Cyber Class, Teachers

What does it mean to be a self initiated learner?  To me it means that a person has the desire and willingness to learn new things.  It doesn’t matter how easy or hard the subject maybe.  They learn all that they can learn.  Sometimes they get it right, and sometimes they make mistakes but they don’t quit.  They see learning as a way to better themselves.  For me it’s self  gratification.  Learning something new is like eating a big piece of German Chocolate Cake.

Day 2

by tbennett on Jun.16, 2009, under Cyber Class, Teachers

It has been another day packed full of information.  At the present moment, I’m trying to figure out how to add changes in my themes.  I’m getting very frustrated because I know what I want to do but I haven’t figured out how to do it.  I shouldn’t be; It’s only day 2 of the program.  I’ll get it figure out by July 14th!  LOL!!

My First Wordpress Post

by tbennett on Jun.15, 2009, under Cyber Class

vb 017Hello everyone!

I’m  excited to be in this class this summer. I think that this class is going to be jam packed with great and valuable information.  The first day of class was a good day.  I thought the class might be hard because of all the information that we have to learn in such a short period of time.   I believe that the class is going to be a challenge but with the Professors that we have, I feel that we are going to be more knowledgeable and confident about technology at the end of the class.  My expectation of this class is to learn everything that I can learn about technology, so that I can help others, use it as a teaching tool, and use it more efficiently in my daily life.
